Cumberland View aged care community: April 2026
April was a month that had something for everyone at Cumberland View Aged Care. From Easter egg hunts and cinema trips to ANZAC Day services and scenic bus rides through Melbourne, the Cumberland View community embraced every moment with enthusiasm - and there was rarely a quiet day in between.
Easter celebrations in full swing
Easter arrived with all the trimmings. Residents set off on an Easter Egg Hunt, laughed along to a performance by Puppets Alive and Steve, and received Easter gifts from the Lifestyle Team. The Men's Group raised a cheerful toast to the season, and birthdays were celebrated along the way - because at Cumberland View, any reason to gather around a cake is a good one.
Elvis also made an appearance to help mark the occasion, bringing music and more than a few smiles to the room. It was the kind of Easter that lingers warmly in the memory.
A trip to the cinema
One of the month's standout outings was a visit to Pinewood Cinema to see The Faraway Tree - a wonderful morning that had residents thoroughly charmed. The group is already looking forward to next month's screening of The Sheep Detectives, and anticipation is building nicely.
Autumn in the garden and music all week
As the season turned, residents made the most of the beautiful autumn weather with time spent enjoying the gardens. The changing colours provided a gorgeous backdrop for morning walks and quiet outdoor moments.
Inside, the music never stopped. Residents danced in their chairs to the Golden Girls, sang along with Steph Renouf, moved to the beat with Jose, and were treated to a wandering serenade from Boruch, whose musical visits always bring a lift to the day. Later in the month, Laurel McKenna and Alex Matthews kept the energy going, with Eliza adding movement and music to the mix.
Milo the therapy dog
Milo from Miracle Paws paid a visit, and the response - as always - was immediate and wholehearted. There is something quietly powerful about a therapy dog working a room, and Milo delivered in style. The cuddles were plentiful and the smiles were genuine.
Special days acknowledged
April brought a number of meaningful occasions, and the Cumberland View aged care community marked each one thoughtfully. St George's Day, the Queen's Birthday, and World Tai Chi Day - celebrated with the help of Chris - all received their moment of recognition throughout the month.
ANZAC Day was observed with particular care. Mike Black from the RSL led a special service that included the laying of a wreath and the raising of the Australian flag. It was a dignified and moving occasion, reflecting the deep respect this community holds for those who have served. Lest we forget.
A scenic bus ride through Melbourne
A highlight of the month for many was a scenic bus ride that took residents over the Swan Street Bridge, past the Governor of Victoria's residence - where a friendly wave was exchanged - and on to the Shrine of Remembrance, where the autumn foliage was at its most beautiful. It was exactly the kind of outing that reminds everyone how much there is to appreciate, close to home.
Pampering, games, and putting
The week was rounded out with pampering sessions, plenty of games, and a putting session on the green - proof that staying active and having fun are not mutually exclusive.
April reminded us, once again, that a connected community is one where every day holds something worth turning up for - and Cumberland View delivered that in abundance. Check out our video below to see what we've all been up to!
