Cumberland View Aged Care in June 2026: a month of music, creativity and connection

Cumberland View Aged Care residents made the most of every winter day in June 2026, filling the month with live music, creative pursuits, delicious cooking, scenic outings and plenty of warm company.

A visit from Gelu

One of the month’s most heartwarming moments came courtesy of Gelu, our four-pawed friend from Miracle Paws. Residents lit up at the chance to spend time with such a gentle, lovable visitor, and the cuddles and smiles said everything. There is something quietly powerful about the presence of an animal, and Gelu delivered that in abundance.

Live music all month long

June was nothing short of a concert season at Cumberland View. We were treated to performances from an impressive lineup: John B brought a wonderful variety of instruments for residents to try, and the sounds filling the room were nothing short of amazing. Doug De Rose joined us for a lively happy hour, as did Margie Dennis, whose Friday session had everyone singing and moving. Baruch brought beautiful music that had residents dancing to the beat.

Steph Renouf performed twice across the month, earning well-deserved applause both times. Lorenzo celebrated a birthday with us and performed a concert full of beautiful songs – we all sang and danced right along with him. Tom Diaco serenaded residents and joined in the dancing. Alex Matthews turned happy hour into a full floor event, complete with singing, giggles and, naturally, a spirited air guitar session.

The Skylarkers returned for what can only be described as a huge concert – one of the highlights of the month. Residents sang along, danced, and soaked in every melodious moment.

Movement to music with Eliza

Eliza joined us for movement to music, and the ribbon session had residents waving, stretching and smiling from start to finish. It is the kind of activity that lifts the whole room, and June’s session was no exception.

Men’s group

The men’s group continued their Thursday afternoon tradition in the Napier lounge, gathering for a relaxed drink, a good conversation and a well-earned cheers. These weekly catch-ups are a cornerstone of the Cumberland View social calendar and just as popular as ever.

High tea

We gathered for a wonderful high tea, complete with sandwiches, scones, cakes and cupcakes. Residents dressed the occasion beautifully, and the mood was exactly what high tea should be: civilised, joyful and thoroughly indulgent.

Scenic bus outings

We headed out on the road three times this month. Our scenic bus trip took residents through the Dandenong Ranges to admire the winter views and enjoy a well-earned ice cream. A coffee trip to Stud Park included the irresistible addition of donuts. And a third outing took us to Mulgrave Country Club for coffee and a relaxed chat. These bus trips are always looked forward to, and the chatter on the way home says everything about how much they are enjoyed.

Crafty Cumberland

Our craft sessions were wonderfully varied in June. Residents followed a step-by-step guide to draw a cute little mouse, channelled their inner pointillist with dot painting to create sunflowers, carefully crafted beautiful flower bouquets, and coloured and assembled stunning 3D Triskele balls. Every session filled the room with quiet focus and quiet pride.

Cooking adventures

The kitchen was busy this month, and not just the main one. In our cooking sessions, residents prepared tuna and coriander patties with spices and lemon zest, mixing, rolling and cooking before eating these aromatic, tasty morsels. We also made yogurt-covered frozen berries, dipping strawberries in honey and yogurt before popping them in the freezer. Pizza toasties were another hit – bread circles, tomatoes and cheese, air-fried to perfection. Our kitchen team also delivered a magnificent Italian cuisine menu, with a wonderful array of pasta and sauces that was met with great appreciation.

International Ice Tea Day

We raised a glass (or a teacup) to International Ice Tea Day with a tasting session that delighted the taste buds. Residents sampled a variety of flavours, and the afternoon had a lovely festive feel to it.

A talk on birds

One of our residents, a passionate birdwatcher, shared an informative and engaging chat about birds with the group. Residents listened with genuine interest, asked great questions, and we were all reminded of the wealth of knowledge and experience that lives within our community.

Lifestyle room visits

Some residents enjoyed lifestyle room visits that featured vision of their home towns, offering a fabulous trip down memory lane. These quiet, meaningful sessions connect residents with cherished places and stir wonderful stories and recollections.

Welcoming new friends

We warmly welcomed new residents to Cumberland View with a special afternoon tea. Settling into a new home is a significant moment, and we take care to make every new arrival feel seen, welcomed and at ease from the very first day.

Bingo, bowls, walking and more

The regular favourites continued all month long. Bingo drew enthusiastic players, carpet bowls kept the competitive spirit alive, the morning walking group took their daily strolls (with at least one very welcome rest stop photographed for posterity), and book club and knitting sessions filled the quieter hours with companionship and purpose. The fishing activity also made a very popular appearance, with some excellent catches to show for it.

Birthdays

Several residents celebrated birthdays in June, and Cumberland View made sure each milestone was marked with warmth, cake and plenty of happy faces.
